Amid the ongoing investigation into the sex tape controversy in Karnataka, former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy has made a startling claim. Addressing a press conference, Kumaraswamy alleged that a pen drive containing obscene videos of his nephew and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna was intentionally circulated throughout the state with the help of police officers.
Kumaraswamy stated that on April 21, the pen drive was circulated in Bengaluru Rural, Mandya, and even in Hassan. He informed that Prajwal Revanna’s election agent, Poornachandra, had filed a complaint with the Hassan DC and Police on April 22. However, despite the complaint, no action has been taken against the individuals responsible for the video’s circulation.
The JD(S) leader further revealed that a WhatsApp channel was created on April 21, urging people to follow it to watch Prajwal Revanna’s videos. Kumaraswamy expressed his disappointment with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe, stating that it has become the “Siddaramaiah Investigation Team” and the “Shivakumar Investigation Team,” with the SIT members being called to the homes of these leaders to discuss the case.
Kumaraswamy questioned the SIT’s handling of the case, pointing out that no direct complaint has been filed against HD Revanna, Prajwal’s father. He also raised concerns about the victim’s treatment, stating that when Revanna applied for bail, the SIT advocate claimed they did not know whether the victim was alive or not, despite her later being rescued from a farmhouse.
The former Chief Minister also criticized the SIT’s approach to the case, stating that Karthik Gowda, the driver who allegedly circulated the video, has not been arrested or brought before the public. Kumaraswamy demanded that the Home Minister clarify whether the investigation is solely focused on HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna.
The controversy surrounding the alleged explicit videos of Prajwal Revanna erupted in Karnataka after the videos surfaced on social media, a day after the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections concluded on April 26. Prajwal Revanna, the Hassan MP, has denied the allegations, claiming that the videos are morphed.
Following the allegations, a woman lodged a formal complaint accusing Prajwal Revanna of sexually assaulting her multiple times between 2019 and 2022. The case has sparked a political uproar in the state, with Kumaraswamy’s allegations adding a new dimension to the ongoing investigation.
