Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the officials to file a criminal case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly provoking the crowd after a clash broke out between Congress workers and police on the periphery of Guwahati today.
Today, the Assam government has stopped the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi from entering Guwahati after it was denied permission to enter the city limits, leading to protests from Congress workers. The Congress workers attacked through barricades and wrestled with the police, forcing them to use force to stop them.
Later, on the outskirts of the city, Rahul Gandhi spoke to party workers and supporters, calling them “babbar sher” (lions) who were powerful enough to knock down barriers. “We have broken barricades, but we will not break the law,” Gandhi added.
Following the incident, Himanta Biswa Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi and his party members of “unruly behavior” and “naxalite tactics” on Twitter. He continued that there is currently a severe traffic bottleneck in Guwahati as a result of disorderly conduct and disregard for established protocols.
The Assam Chief Minister wrote on his ‘X’ handle, “These are not part of Assamese culture. We are in a peaceful state. These kinds of naxalite tactics are alien to our culture. I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to register a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd & use the footage you have posted on your handles as the evidence.”
