Ajit Pawar Demands 80-90 Seats In Maharashtra Assembly Polls

In a significant development ahead of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar held a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss seat-sharing arrangements between the NCP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The meeting, which took place at Shah’s residence in New Delhi, is seen as a crucial step towards forging an alliance between the two parties for the upcoming state polls.
The meeting between Pawar and Shah comes amid speculation that the NCP may part ways with its long-standing ally, the Congress party, and join hands with the BJP. The NCP has been a key member of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government in Maharashtra, which also includes the Shiv Sena and the Congress party. However, recent developments, such as the resignation of NCP leader Ajit Pawar from the post of Deputy Chief Minister, have fueled rumors of a possible realignment of political forces in the state.
The seat-sharing discussions between the NCP and the BJP are expected to be a crucial factor in determining the outcome of the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. The BJP, which emerged as the single largest party in the 2019 state polls, is looking to consolidate its position and form a stable government in the state. The NCP, on the other hand, is seeking to secure a favorable deal in terms of the number of seats it will contest and the portfolios it will hold in the event of a post-poll alliance with the BJP. As per sources, Pawar demanded that his party get at least 80-90 seats in the upcoming assembly polls.
