A virtual artificial intelligence spokesperson has been appointed by the Ukrainian foreign ministry to provide updates on a range of topics, including the current conflict with Russia.
A virtual artificial intelligence (AI) spokesperson has been appointed by the Ukrainian foreign ministry to provide updates on a range of topics, including the current conflict with Russia.
Based on the resemblance of Ukrainian musician and influencer Rosalie Nombre, who agreed to take part in the ministry’s project, the consular representation of ‘Victoria Shi’ was created.
The ministry released a video of the virtual spokesman on X, the former Twitter, and said that the MFA’s official website and social media outlets will feature her views.
“Meet Victoria Shi, an AI-generated digital ambassador for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that delivers up-to-date information on consular matters! The MFA of Ukraine has unveiled a digital persona that will formally provide commentary to the media for the first time in history,” the ministry announced on X.
The ministry stated in a press release that Ms Nombre gave permission “pro bono” for the use of her voice and likeness. The ministry went on to say that in order to streamline procedures during a time of conflict, a decision has been made to reduce time and resources.
According to Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, “real diplomats will be able to be more effective and focus on other tasks of providing assistance to citizens.”
