The Met Office said that Delhi experienced its coldest day this winter yesterday, with the maximum temperature dropping to a two-year-old low of 13.4°C, six degrees below normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that this morning Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 7.1°C.
The national capital has been placed under a “yellow alert” for today, when a high of about 16°C is predicted. Drizzle was delivered to isolated areas of the city by the western disturbance, which also affected other portions of the northern plains.
Delhi’s 343 assessment for air quality indicated that it was still “very poor.” It was colder in neighboring Uttar Pradesh, with the minimum temperatures in Kanpur and Agra dropping to 1.1 and 1.0 °C, respectively.
