After a week of persistent rainfall, Gujarat is experiencing a much-needed break. The State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar reported an average rainfall of just 1.36 mm in the past 24 hours. The Mundra taluka in the Kutch region received the highest rainfall, nearly one inch, while 68 talukas saw less than an inch. No rainfall was recorded between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, indicating a temporary lull.
As of August 31, Gujarat’s cumulative average rainfall for the monsoon season is 111% of the average. The Kutch zone leads with 179% of its seasonal average, followed by Saurashtra with over 124%, and South Gujarat with more than 111%. East-Central Gujarat recorded over 105%, while North Gujarat is at 88%.
This brief respite allows for impact assessment and preparation for future challenges. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued new alerts, expecting light to moderate rainfall across most areas, with heavy rainfall expected until September 6. An orange alert is in effect for Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, and Kutch, while Junagadh, Rajkot, Morbi, Gir Somnath, and Diu face yellow warnings.
Additional yellow alerts are issued for various districts, with orange alerts for Vadodara and Chhota Udepur on September 2, and extended alerts for several districts on September 3.
