Centre Deploys Nine NDRF Teams To Telangana Amid Severe Flooding
Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar announced that the Centre is dispatching nine National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to Telangana to aid in rescue and relief efforts due to severe heavy rains and flash floods.
Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar announced that the Centre is dispatching nine National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to Telangana to aid in rescue and relief efforts due to severe heavy rains and flash floods. The deployment, ordered by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, includes three teams each from Chennai, Visakhapatnam, and Assam.
Bandi Sanjay reported to Amit Shah the dire situation in Telangana’s Khammam district, where 110 villages have been submerged. He detailed the plight of those stranded, including nine people on Prakash Nagar hillock, 68 on Azmeera Thanda hillock in Palair constituency, and 42 others trapped in buildings. The Union Minister has coordinated with senior NDRF officials to streamline the rescue operations.
He also discussed the crisis with Telangana’s Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, urging the NDRF teams to synchronize their efforts for efficient relief work. NDRF teams are actively working, utilizing boats for rescues due to inclement weather preventing helicopter use. Residential areas along the Munneru River in Khammam are submerged, with residents trapped on rooftops awaiting help.
The heavy rains, influenced by a depression in the Bay of Bengal and the active monsoon, have caused lakes, tanks, and ponds to overflow, inundating low-lying areas. A red alert has been issued for 11 districts, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in the coming 24 hours.
