According to recent intelligence reports, the framework for regime change in Bangladesh, which culminated in massive protests and the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was allegedly crafted in London in collaboration with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Bangladeshi officials assert they possess evidence of meetings between Tarique Rahman, the acting leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, and ISI representatives in Saudi Arabia.
The unrest began as protests against a controversial quota system for government jobs but escalated into a broader anti-government movement. The protests were reportedly fueled by numerous “anti-Bangladesh” accounts on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), with over 500 negative tweets targeting Hasina’s administration, including contributions from Pakistani accounts.
Sources indicate that the ISI and the Pakistan Army aimed to destabilize Hasina’s government and restore the BNP to power, which is perceived as pro-Pakistan. Additionally, intelligence suggests that China, in conjunction with the ISI, played a role in intensifying the protests that ultimately led to Hasina fleeing to India.
The student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, known as Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), has been identified as a key player in orchestrating the protests. This organization has reportedly received significant support from ISI and has been instrumental in mobilizing university students across Bangladesh to participate in the demonstrations, which have resulted in significant violence and loss of life.
