Two girls were sexually assaulted at a kindergarten in Badlapur, located in Maharashtra’s Thane district, leading to widespread protests. Demonstrators, including angry parents, blocked railway lines in their demand for justice, prompting police to use lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
In response to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated that he had spoken with the Commissioner of Police and insisted that the accused be charged under the most stringent sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He assured that the case would be fast-tracked and emphasized that the government would seek capital punishment for the perpetrators to prevent future occurrences of such crimes.
