The highly anticipated film “Kalki 2898 AD,” featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, has achieved a remarkable milestone by crossing Rs 1000 crore at the global box office. This achievement was confirmed by the film’s makers, signaling a significant triumph amidst stiff competition from other major releases like “Indian 2” in the South and “Sarfira” in the North. As it enters its third week in cinemas, the blockbuster continues to attract large audiences.
Day 16 Box Office Performance
On its sixteenth day in theaters, “Kalki 2898 AD” managed to earn Rs 5.2 crore in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings the film’s total domestic collections to an impressive Rs 548 crore. The movie is expected to surpass the Rs 550 crore mark by Saturday and outdo the lifetime domestic collections of “Animal,” which stands at Rs 553 crore, by Sunday.
Breaking down the earnings by language, the Telugu version of “Kalki 2898 AD” has grossed Rs 255 crore, while the Hindi version has garnered Rs 236 crore. On the sixteenth day alone, the Telugu version brought in Rs 1.4 crore, whereas the Hindi version earned more than double that amount. The Telugu release faced significant competition from Kamal Haasan’s “Indian 2,” which raked in Rs 26 crore on its opening day, including Rs 7.9 crore from the Telugu version.
Critical and Commercial Success
“Kalki 2898 AD” has not only performed exceptionally well at the box office but has also received critical acclaim. This success is particularly notable for Prabhas, who has faced several high-budget disappointments following the massive success of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” in 2017. “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” stands as the only other major success for the star in recent years.
The film’s achievement in crossing the Rs 1000 crore mark underscores its popularity and the strong performances by its star-studded cast. “Kalki 2898 AD” has managed to captivate audiences with its unique blend of science fiction and mythology, setting a new benchmark for future releases in the genre. As it continues its theatrical run, the film is expected to set even higher records, reinforcing the dominance of South Indian cinema in the global market.
