The FBI has identified the shooter in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. According to a statement by the US Secret Service, the shooter “fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside the rally” before being “neutralized” by agents.
Donald Trump was hurried off stage with blood streaking across his face following the shooting in Butler. Thomas Matthew Crooks was identified by the FBI as the individual involved in the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Voter-registration records indicated he was registered as a Republican and was a resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Crooks graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022 and received a $500 “star award” from the National Math and Science Initiative that year, as reported by The Tribune-Review in western Pennsylvania.
Armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, Crooks positioned himself on the roof of a building approximately 130 yards away from the stage where Donald Trump was addressing the rally. Multiple witnesses observed him before the shooting and alerted authorities.
Following the attack on the 78-year-old former US President, Crooks was shot and killed by Secret Service officials. Police stated that Crooks’ motive for firing on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee remains unclear.
