At the age of just 17, para-archer Sheetal Devi captivated the world with her stunning performance at the Paris Paralympics. Although she exited the women’s individual compound open event on Saturday, her bullseye shot, captured on video, has gone viral.
As one of the few armless archers globally, her achievement even garnered a response from Barcelona star Jules Kounde on social media. Sheetal Devi captured attention at the Paris Paralympics with her remarkable performance in Women’s Individual Compound Archery.
She set a new World Record by scoring 703 points out of 720, surpassing the previous record of 698. Despite this, she narrowly lost to Chile’s Zuniga Mariana with a score of 137-138, which prevented her from advancing to the knockout stages.
Her impressive achievement, however, garnered global recognition. Even former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh praised the remarkable para-archer. Last year, Sheetal Devi won three medals at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, including two golds in individual and mixed team compound events and a silver in doubles compound.
Sheetal Devi began strongly, scoring two Xs and taking the opening set 29-28. However, a 7-point second arrow allowed the Chilean archer to gain an advantage, winning the second end 27-26 to level the score at 55-all.
The match remained tight over the next eight arrows, but Mariana clinched victory with a 9 on the final arrow, while Sheetal’s shot landed in the 8-ring, resulting in a narrow one-point loss.
