Former India pacer David Johnson passed away at the age of 52 on Thursday in Bengaluru. He died after falling from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment here, and an inquiry is underway to determine whether it was suicide.
According to current information, Johnson, who ran a cricket academy near his home, has not been doing well in recent times. A Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) official said that he was taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
Johnson, who played two Tests and 39 First-Class matches, was a key element of Karnataka’s fearsome bowling unit, which included Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad, and Dodda Ganesh.
Ex-India bowler and Johnson’s longtime buddy, Ganesh, said that it is shocking news because they have played together since their cricket days for a club called Jai Karnataka.
Ganesh vividly remembered their time together on the field. He further said that they played for the state and the country. For a long period, the Karnataka bowling assault served as India’s bowling attack.
Ganesh continued, “In reality, six players from the state, including Rahul Dravid, were in the India squad at the same time. I doubt any other state has accomplished that feat.”
Anil Kumble, the legendary leg spinner, expressed his condolences on the demise of his former comrade. The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, also expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.
