Rahul Dravid Set To Lead Rajasthan Royals As Head Coach For IPL 2025

Former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid is poised to take over as the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. This appointment follows Dravid’s successful tenure as head coach of the Indian national team, where he recently guided the squad to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.

According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, Dravid has signed a deal with the franchise and is already involved in discussions regarding player retention ahead of the mega auction. His deep-rooted relationship with RR captain Sanju Samson, who played under Dravid in the India U-19 team, is expected to foster a strong team dynamic.

Dravid’s history with the Rajasthan Royals dates back to 2012 and 2013 when he captained the team. He later served as the team director and mentor during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. After a stint with Delhi Capitals, he became the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before taking the reins of the Indian men’s team in 2021.

As Dravid steps into this new role, the franchise is also looking to bring in Vikram Rathour as an assistant coach. Rathour previously worked alongside Dravid at the NCA and with the Indian national team, making him a fitting addition to the coaching staff.
Kumar Sangakkara, the current director of cricket for the Royals, will continue in his role while also focusing on the franchise’s other teams in various leagues, including the Paarl Royals in the SA20 and the Barbados Royals in the CPL.

Last season, the Rajasthan Royals reached the playoffs but were eliminated in Qualifier 2 after a defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad. With Dravid at the helm, fans are hopeful for a strong performance in the upcoming season as the team aims for greater success.
