The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday introduced a website through which illegal non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan can seek Indian citizenship. This comes one day after notifying them of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) regulations.
Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Christians, Buddhists, and Parsis who immigrated to India before December 31, 2014, are eligible to apply for Indian citizenship in accordance with the regulations. Applicants must use their personal email address and mobile number to access the portal in order to submit an application for citizenship under the CAA.
After that, they must complete the online form, upload the necessary files, and pay a fee. To access the website, go to indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in. Via the website, one can monitor the application’s status. Email and SMS will be used to notify participants of the final result.
A hard copy of the application must be given to the applicant’s place of residence’s district collector or district magistrate’s office. If the applicant resides outside of India, they should submit a copy of the application to the Consular General of India.
Within sixty days of the hard copy application being sent to the district collector’s office, the state government will get the application and a report. After that, the application must be sent to the federal government within 30 days of the date the collector’s report was received.
Those who wish to apply for Indian nationality must have lived in the nation for at least 12 months prior to the application date.
