In a concerning incident of food poisoning, approximately 80 students from the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Ashram Method Inter College in Mehroona village fell ill after consuming dinner on Sunday night. The students exhibited symptoms including stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. On Monday, officials reported that the affected students are in stable condition, with an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the outbreak. District Magistrate Divya Mittal confirmed that while two students, Akash and Nitesh, are being treated at Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College, the rest received immediate care from a medical team led by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) directly at the school. A medical team remains on-site as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. District Magistrate Mittal, along with Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma, visited the medical college to monitor the situation and assure that action would be taken against those responsible.
An official statement issued on Monday evening detailed the response to the incident. Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Vinay Kumar Sahay reported that a team from the Food Safety and Drug Administration conducted an inspection of the college’s kitchen and storage areas. They collected seven samples of food items, including prepared bread, lentils, vegetables, chili powder, chickpeas, mustard oil, and mixed pickles. The samples were taken in the presence of the school’s director, Rajkumar Gupta, and were sent to a food laboratory for testing. A notice concerning deficiencies in storage and kitchen practices is also being issued. Further actions will be based on the test results. The Ashram school, a government-run institution, serves 326 students from classes six to twelve. Following Sunday night’s dinner, students began experiencing severe gastrointestinal issues, including vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, dizziness, and chills. Initially, the school management provided medication and advised students to rest until morning. By Monday morning, the situation had worsened, with around 80 students affected. They were subsequently transported to a hospital for further treatment. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vipin Kumar Dwivedi and Food Inspector Vipin Kumar Sahay arrived at the scene to assist with the investigation and response. The situation remains under close scrutiny as authorities work to address the incident and prevent future occurrences.
