The Ibrahimpatnam police have employed the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act) against former BRS MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy, his son Prashant Reddy, former municipal commissioner Md Yusuf, and former Hyderabad district collector Amoy Kumar. Police filed a formal complaint (574 of 2023) in response to a complaint made by Kappari Sravanthi, the chairwoman of Ibrahimpatnam and a member of the Dalit community. In her case, Sravanthi claimed that she was defrauded of Rs. 2.5 crore by Kishan and Prashant Reddy in exchange for their appointment to the position of municipal chairperson for the 2019 elections. Since Amoy Kumar took over as Rangareddy’s in-charge collector in 2019, she has been subjected to insults in the name of her caste from Kishan Reddy, Prashant Reddy, and Yusuf.
In her complaint, Sravanthi claimed that she was frequently pressured to turn over her duties to the vice chairman. Yusuf had pushed her to request a leave of absence on multiple occasions. He began making fun of her in public when she refused to comply. On July 5, 2002, she said that Amoy Kumar had called her to the Hyderabad collectorate office and began pressuring her to file for leave, failing which he threatened to suspend her. In her lawsuit, Sravanthi claims that Amoy Kumar advised her that members of the “low caste” should not engage in combat with members of the “upper caste.” He is said to have informed her, “Apply for leave, or else you will be suspended.” According to Sravanthi’s allegations, she was given the order to offer Yusuf a separate chamber by moving out of the TPO room by Kishan Reddy, the then MLA. Due to her complaint, police opened an investigation and filed charges against all four of them under the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act), and IPC for purposeful insulting of a person and criminal intimidation.
