Telangana CM Revanth Reddy extebded wishes to the people on the occasion of ‘Praja-Palana Day’ on Tuesday. He said, “It is a matter of pride to honor the mother of Telangana with the official song ‘Jaya Jayahe Telangana Jayaketanamantu’ and the public government will continue the democratic spirit.
Telangana Liberation Day is observed annually on September 17 to commemorate the liberation of the Hyderabad State from the Nizam’s rule and its integration into the Indian Union in 1948.
This significant day marks the end of a princely state and its merger into India, following a period of political unrest and military intervention.
The Hyderabad State, ruled by the Nizam, was one of the largest princely states in India. The Nizam initially chose to remain independent rather than join either India or Pakistan post-independence.
This led to tensions and the eventual military operation known as ‘Operation Polo,’ conducted by the Indian government to annex Hyderabad into the Indian Union.
The operation began on September 13, 1948, and concluded with the surrender of the Nizam on September 17, 1948. This day is celebrated in Telangana as a symbol of the region’s integration into the Indian Republic and the beginning of a new era.
Notably, it is marked by various events, including government functions, cultural programs, and speeches highlighting the importance of this historical moment in Telangana’s journey.
