One woman burned alive and four other passengers were injured after a private travel bus caught fire in the Jogulamba Gadwal district of Telangana. According to the police, the tragic incident happened at the Erravalli crossroads on the Hyderabad-Bangalore national highway at 2.30 a.m. today. Police said the bus driver fell asleep as he lost control of the bus, and it overturned and caught fire. A fire tender rushed to the spot, doused the fire, and the bus was completely gutted.
The Volvo bus of a Jagan Amazon travel company was on its way to Chittoor from Hyderabad, and the bus was carrying 50 passengers. The bus was overturned and caught fire. While almost all passengers jumped out by breaking glass windows, a woman was caught in the flames and was charred to death.
Meanwhile, three of the four injured were admitted to a hospital in Gadwal, while the fourth was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad. The deceased woman is yet to be identified, and a further probe is underway.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Telangana saw a dip in the number of road accidents from 22,230 in 2018 to 21,619 in 2022.
