President Droupadi Murmu today presented India’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, to the former prime minister, PV Narasimha Rao, posthumously. Along with PV Narasimha Rao, President Murmu conferred Bharat Ratna on another former prime minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh, posthumously.
During the event at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, President Murmu presented India’s highest civilian award to top agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan and former 2-time Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur posthumously.
Interestingly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leader LK Advani will receive the Bharat Ratna award tomorrow at his home. Meanwhile, President Murmu will visit LK Advani’s residence and confer on him the highest civilian award due to his health condition.
It is known that former PM Narasimha Rao was born on June 28, 1921, in the Karimnagar district of Telangana. Narasimha Rao, being an agriculturist and an advocate, joined politics.
He also served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1971–73 and General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee from 1975–76. It is known that Narasimha Rao was Prime Minister from June 21, 1991, to May 16, 1996.
