The flood water level of the Krishna river is rising gradually at the Jurala dam, which is located in the Jogulamba Gadwal district of Telangana. Due to flooding from Karnataka and Maharashtra, 45 crest gates are being lifted.
The current inflow is 2.18 lakh cusecs and the outflow is 2.25 lakh cusecs. Also, 435 MW of electricity is being generated at the project with 11 units.
The Jurala Dam, officially known as the Priyadarshini Jurala Project, is located on the Krishna River near Gadwal in Jogulamba Gadwal district. The dam supports a hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 240 MW, contributing to the state’s energy needs.
The construction of the dam began in 1981 and was completed in 1995. It was built primarily for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation, with the dam having a capacity to irrigate around 102,000 hectares of agricultural land.
Jurala Dam is significant for its strategic location, as it is the first dam on the Krishna River in Telangana. It plays a crucial role in the region’s agriculture, providing water to the drought-prone areas of the state.
Jurala Dam is a vital lifeline for local communities, supporting agriculture, providing drinking water, and sustaining livelihoods in the surrounding regions.
