The legislator, a qualified surgeon, stepped forward to do his duty when two women approached the hospital as they were in labor and no doctor was available to attend to them. As the heavy rains and floods made it impossible for the authorities to move the women to medical facilities in other towns, the hospital authorities approached the Congress MLA. He wore his white coat to save the two women.
Normal life in the district has come to a standstill due to rains and floods in the Godavari River, which has been flowing at full capacity at Bhadrachalam for the past few days. The roads to many villages in the district has also been cut off.
Two pregnant women were rushed to Bhadrachalam Hospital from two different villages two days ago, as they thought they would face problems due to floods. They got labor pains on Tuesday. As four of the five surgeons were transferred from the hospital and the fifth person was not available, the hospital officials had to contact the MLA, who was engaged in flood relief work in his constituency.
Venkatarao, who worked as a civil surgeon, reached the hospital and performed a C-section on both woman successfully. Bhimanaboina Swapna, gave birth to a boy, and Pilli Pushpalila welcomed a girl. The women and their family members thanked the MLA for supporting them during the emergency. Venkatarao said that he will always be available to serve the people of the area.
