IMD Issues Cold-Wave Red Alert For Several States

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted severe cold-day conditions will continue to prevail over North India for the next 2 days and decrease in intensity thereafter. The IMD has issued a red alert for Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh for cold wave conditions on January 24 and an ‘orange alert’ from January 25 to January 27, 2024.
The IMD predicted that light isolated rainfall or snowfall will occur over the Western Himalayan Region from January 25 to 28, 2024. The IMD also expected light rainfall over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim during the next 2–3 days. In addition to that, moderate rainfall is likely to happen over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during January 24-28, with the possibility of heavy rainfall on January 25.
