Veteran Australian batter Steve Smith described Virat Kohli’s on-field demeanor as “Australian in thoughts and action,” highlighting Kohli’s competitive nature and determination. As India and Australia prepare for the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Smith emphasized Kohli’s aggressive approach and his ability to challenge opponents.
In a video shared by Star Sports on ‘X’, formerly Twitter, Smith praised Kohli’s approach to the game, noting, “The way he gets into a battle, the way he gets into the challenge and tries to get on top of the opposition. He’s probably the most Australian of the Indian players, I’d say.”
Kohli, with 80 international centuries and 8,846 runs in 113 Tests, faces Smith, who has accumulated 9,685 runs in 109 Tests. Despite their rivalry, Smith emphasized the importance of playing for success rather than personal victories.
The two players, who frequently exchange messages, are set to renew their on-field rivalry starting November 22 in the five-match series, which will be hosted in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. Smith expressed his excitement for the upcoming matches, stating, “It’s going to be nice to come up against him again this summer.”
