Two-time Olympic medalist and star shuttler PV Sindhu’s campaign ended in the ongoing Paris Olympics. In the women’s badminton singles pre-quarter final match, she was defeated by Chinese player He Bing Xiao.
Sindhu lost to Bing by a score of 19-21, and 14-21. Sindhu’s dream of a hat-trick medal in the Olympics was shattered. Nikhat Zareen also had to suffer defeat in boxing on Thursday.
The two-time Olympic medalist and star shuttler was always kept under pressure by Chinese shuttler He Bing Jiao. Interestingly, Sindhu had defeated He Bing Jiao at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games, and she secured a bronze medal.
It is known that since the badminton had made its Olympic debut at Barcelona in 1992, India have won 3 medals in badminton. PV Sindhu secured a silver medal at Rio 2016 and a also got bronze medal at Tokyo 2020. Another Indian star shuttler Saina Nehwal secured a bronze medal at London Olympics 2012.
Notably, India is now only has Lakshya Sen remaining from the badminton squad to fight for a medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. As per schedule, Lakshya will face Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen in the quarter-finals on Friday at 6:30 pm.
