Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra has made headlines after revealing that he competed in the 2024 Diamond League Final in Brussels with a fractured left hand. The injury, which occurred during a practice session just days before the event, involved a fracture of the fourth metacarpal. Despite the pain and discomfort, Neeraj showcased remarkable determination, finishing as the runner-up for the second consecutive year.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Neeraj shared an X-ray image of his injured hand, emphasizing the challenges he faced throughout the season. He noted, “On Monday, I injured myself in practice, and X-rays showed that I had fractured the fourth metacarpal in my left hand. It was another painful challenge for me. But with the help of my team, I was able to participate in Brussels.”
During the competition, Neeraj achieved a best throw of 87.86 meters, narrowly missing out on the Diamond League trophy, which was claimed by Grenada’s Anderson Peters with a throw of 87.87 meters. This close finish highlights Neeraj’s competitive spirit, as he pushed through his injury to deliver a strong performance.
Reflecting on the season, Neeraj expressed gratitude for the support he received from fans and teammates. “This was the last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track. While I couldn’t meet my own expectations, I feel this was a season in which I learned a lot. I am now determined to return, fully fit and ready to go. 2024 has made me a better athlete and person. See you in 2025,” he stated.
Neeraj’s journey in 2024 has been marked by a series of challenges, including a groin injury that hindered his performance throughout the season. Despite these setbacks, he managed to secure a silver medal at the Paris Olympics and consistently performed well in various competitions. However, he faced difficulties in clinching titles, finishing second in multiple events, including the Diamond League.
