Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has delayed his return to India following his silver medal triumph at the Paris Olympics. The 26-year-old has traveled to Germany to seek medical advice regarding a persistent groin injury that has been troubling him for the past couple of years.
Chopra, who won the World Championships in 2023 while carrying the injury, had planned to consult with doctors after the Paris Olympics to determine the best course of action. He had previously sought medical advice from a German doctor about his condition and also underwent a brief training stint in Saarbrucken, Germany, last month in preparation for the Olympics.
According to a family source, Chopra is expected to remain in Germany for at least one and a half months. During this time, he will consult with doctors to decide whether he needs surgery, which his doctor had advised before last year’s World Championships, but Chopra had postponed due to the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Chopra’s participation in upcoming major tournaments, including the Diamond League Meetings and the Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 14, will depend on the outcome of his consultations with doctors in Germany. He currently sits in joint fourth place in the Diamond League Final standings with seven points.
