AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan extended wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of the Vinayaka Chavthi festival. He urged people to celebrate traditionally limited rather than ostentatious and noisy.
The Jana Sena Chief said, “At a time when heavy floods are creating havoc in the state, it is very sad that there are no conditions to make the festival enjoyable.”
Vinayaka Chavthi, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, is a major Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity of wisdom and prosperity. Observed mainly in India, it falls in August or September during the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada.
The festival has ancient origins, but it gained prominence in the 19th century due to the efforts of freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak. He transformed it into a public event to foster national unity against British colonial rule.
Celebrations typically involve creating elaborate clay idols of Ganesha, which are worshipped in homes and public pandals (temporary structures). After the festivities, the idols are immersed in water, symbolizing the deity’s return to his celestial abode.
The festival combines devotion, cultural expression, and community spirit, making it a vibrant and cherished occasion in Hindu tradition.
