In Wayanad, flag politics that swept the country during the 2019 Lok Sabha election have resurfaced. Both the left and the right are criticizing the Congress for not having Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) flags flying during Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad rally on Wednesday.
In Wayanad, flag politics that swept the country during the 2019 Lok Sabha election have resurfaced. Both the left and the right are criticizing the Congress for not having Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) flags flying during Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad rally on Wednesday.
Holding 15 seats in the Kerala assembly, the IUML is a partner of the UDF, led by the Congress party in Kerala. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the Congress on Thursday for the Muslim League flags that were absent from Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad event.
While addressing a press conference, Vijayan asserted that the Congress has descended to a level where it is afraid of communal forces. The lack of the Muslim League’s flags in Kerala, an ally of the Congress, was also brought to the attention of BJP leader Smriti Irani.
Smriti Irani in Wayanad stated that the fact that Muslim League flags were hidden during yesterday’s Congress party nomination rally suggests that Rahul Gandhi is either embarrassed to receive support from the Muslim League or he will be unable to conceal his affiliation with the League when he travels to North India and visits temples.
