WB CM Mamata Banerjee Says She Will Not Allow NRC, CAA!
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that they will not allow the Centre to carry out exercises of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that they will not allow the Centre to carry out exercises of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in her state. “It was done only before elections. I already said this 3-4 times. Our stand is very clear on this.
BJP’s move is only to showcase in front of the people and trouble them. NRC is at the back of BJP leaders minds. We won’t allow both NRC and CAA to take place,” Mamata said. Union Home Ministry, on Monday, notified rules to implementing Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
This move just days ahead of the announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule shook the political arena of the country. Apart from West Bengal, Kerala is also not in favor of the CAA. Kerala Law Minister P Rajeev informed that the State government will challenge the Centre’s CAA in the Supreme Court.
He added that their government will pray to the apex court to declare the act anti-Constitutional. “We approached the Supreme Court against the CAA. Our prayer was that it was against the basic structure of the Constitution,” Rajeev said.
