Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condoled the loss of lives in the wake of the massive earthquake in Japan on Monday. In this regard, PM Modi wrote to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. However, PM Modi stressed that he is deeply anguished and also concerned about the massive earthquake that hit Japan on Monday, January 1, 2024.
At least 64 people died in the massive earthquake of 7.5 magnitude that hit the Noto Peninsula and surrounding areas in central Japan on Monday. Meanwhile, the massive earthquake has caused structural damage and fires in the city of Wajima in Ishikawa Prefecture. However, the full extent of the disaster caused by the massive earthquake remains unknown.
The United States Geological Survey estimated that a total of 200 buildings, including shops and houses, have been burned around Asaichi Street, a popular tourist spot in Japan. It is also reported that the earthquake occurred on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa prefecture around 4.10 p.m. (local time), at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).
