Merchants in the Mayiladuthurai district closed their doors for two hours to pay tribute to the late DMDK leader Vijayakanth. On Friday morning, actor Rajnikanth arrived to Island Ground to pay tribute to Vijayakanth at Anna Salai in Chennai. Rajinikanth said, “We will never find someone as good as Vijayakanth.” He is unmatched in both politics and film. It is impossible to replace this loss.”
Following a positive COVID-19 test on Thursday, actor Vijayakanth, the founder and leader of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), passed away in Chennai on Thursday at the age of 71. The lifeless body of late DMDK leader Vijayakanth was brought to Island Ground, Anna Salai, on Friday morning. The human remains will be kept at Island Ground from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. so that people can pay their last respects. The mortal remains would be conveyed back to the Koyambedu DMDK headquarters by 1 pm, where the last rituals would be carried out by 4.45 pm. In Kancheepuram, DMDK cadres held a silent procession in honor of actor and founder Vijayakanth. MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and actor Sathyaraj showed reverence for DMDK Chief Captain Vijayakanth.
Vijayakanth was admitted to MIOT Hospital in Chennai earlier in November due to a deterioration in his condition. He was admitted to the hospital for 14 days because of coughing and sore throat. Actor Vijayakanth has made a name for himself in the movie business and in politics. Vijayakanth, popularly known as “Captain,” has had a profitable career in the Tamil cinema business. He starred in 154 motion pictures before entering politics. Vijayakanth provided significant advances to the South Indian movie sector while he was employed at Nadigar Sangam, which was originally known as the South Indian Artists Association (SIAA). He has served two terms as a member of the Legislative Assembly, representing the constituencies of Rishivandiyam and Virudhachalam.
