‘Manmohan Singh Was Sensitive PM Who Helped Farmers, But Now…’
NCP president Sharad Pawar while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the culmination of Shetkari Aakrosh Morcha in Pune city yesterday said that the PM Manmohan Singh was sensitive towards farmers and had visited Amravati in Maharashtra after learning about suicide committed by some agriculturists, but now nobody is bothered about their issues.
At a ceremony marking the end of Shetkari Aakrosh Morcha in Pune yesterday, NCP president Sharad Pawar stated that while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was a farmer-friendly man and had visited Amravati, Maharashtra, he was no longer concerned about farmers’ issues after hearing of some farmers’ suicides. NCP MP Amol Kolhe (of the Sardar Pawar group) led the foot march on Thursday, starting in the Pune district at the foot of Shivneri Fort.
The NCP leaders Kolhe and Supriya Sule, Uddhav Thackeray and Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena (UBT), and Congressman Balasaheb Thorat were among the notable members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
“This ‘Shetkari Aakrosh Morcha’ has spread throughout the entire country, not just Pune,” Pawar said.Raut told the assembly that NCP legislators Amol Kolhe and Supriya Sule had been expelled from the legislature for raising issues that affected farmers. He ridiculed Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “Even in Gram Panchayat elections, the BJP cannot win without Electronic Voting Machines.” EVMs are necessary for their success. Raut said, “The BJP is working with the EVM, even though we have alliances with other regional parties in Maharashtra.” Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the leader of the NCP faction, was ridiculed by Raut who said that he should be cautious because change was in the air.
