Congress veteran leader Digvijaya Singh will not contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Digvijaya Singh has made the statement amid huge speculation about whether Congress veterans in Madhya Pradesh will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh stressed that he was not keen on contesting the Lok Sabha polls.
The Congress veteran leader’s Rajya Sabha tenure has two more years to go. The two-time Chief Minister was elected as MP for the Rajya Sabha in June 2020, and the six-year tenure will end in June 2026. In fact, Singh had already contested the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat in 2019 but lost to the BJP’s Pragya Singh Thakur by a huge margin of 3.65 lakh votes.
Digvijaya Singh is a former general secretary of the Congress Party’s All India Congress Committee. Previously, he had served as the 14th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for two terms, from 1993 to 2003. Earlier to that, Singh was also a cabinet minister in Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh’s cabinet between 1980 and 1984.
