Congress Plans Nationwide ‘Save Constitution’ Campaign After Rahul Gandhi’s Impactful Speech

Buoyed by the enthusiastic response to Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s assertive speech in the Lok Sabha on July 1, the Congress is gearing up to amplify its message nationwide. Rahul’s speech, which notably unsettled the ruling NDA, has sparked a renewed drive within the party to extend its reach and impact across India in the coming days.
As part of this strategic initiative, the Congress is planning ‘Save Constitution’ yatras in key poll-bound states such as Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir. These yatras aim to engage the public and promote constitutional values, leveraging the momentum generated by Gandhi’s speech. Additionally, the party plans to display posters featuring Rahul Gandhi holding a picture of Lord Shiva to underscore his message to the treasury benches in the House on Monday.
“A beginning has been made. Rahul Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha rattled the NDA and has been appreciated by people across the country. Now his message must be taken across the country by the party. People should be educated about the history and traditions of our country and the idea of an inclusive India,” said Congress Working Committee member Ghulam Ahmed Mir to ETV Bharat.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed state units to publicize the core ideas of Rahul’s speech, particularly countering the BJP’s attempts to misinterpret his remarks on Hindus. Press conferences will be held across state capitals, and video clips of Rahul’s assertion that “Hindus are not violent” will be circulated to counter the BJP’s narrative.
In Haryana, the state unit has planned a comprehensive campaign titled ‘Jai Samvidhan’ to challenge the BJP, especially in light of Speaker Om Birla’s reprimand of Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda. This initiative aims to highlight the supremacy of the Constitution ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in November. The Haryana Congress will also address the Speaker’s rebuke of Deepender, who had questioned the Chair regarding Shashi Tharoor’s oath-taking phrase “Jai Samvidhan.” This reaction from the Speaker had left the state unit feeling aggrieved, prompting further action.
The Maharashtra unit is also considering a similar ‘Jai Samvidhan’ yatra to promote Rahul Gandhi’s message and emphasize the issues he highlighted. These include concerns related to farmers, women, and youth—issues that resonated with the public during the Lok Sabha elections. AICC secretary in-charge of Maharashtra, Ashish Dua, confirmed plans for a campaign to advance these messages ahead of the state elections in November.
Rahul Gandhi, who recently took on a constitutional role for the first time in his 20-year parliamentary career, articulated his vision of being a people’s Leader of the Opposition, prioritizing their interests. To embody this vision, Gandhi will engage more with the media, expand his presence on social media platforms, and participate in off-the-record discussions with ordinary citizens.
“Rahul Gandhi now represents the voice of the common people who see hope in him. That is why he is getting such nationwide attention which has worried the BJP,” added Ashish Dua.
This comprehensive campaign underscores the Congress’s commitment to reinforcing constitutional values and addressing pressing issues, positioning Rahul Gandhi as a beacon of hope and leadership in India’s political landscape.
