Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin today inaugurated the ‘Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus’ which is named after ex-Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at Kilambakkam in Chennai. There after the inauguration he also paid tribute to former CM. Ex-CM Karunanidhi is also popularly referred to as ‘Kalaignar’ (scholar of arts) for his literary contributions.
As part of the anniversary celebrations of the former chief minister and leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the bus terminal was opened. Stalin had earlier in September declared that a quiz competition would begin on September 15 in honor of the late Karunanidhi’s centennial birthday. According to CM Stalin, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) women’s team, led by DMK Deputy General Secretary Kanimozhi, would participate in the quiz competition.
To commemorate the centennial, the DMK also hosted the Karunanidhi Memorial International Marathon in August. Later on, this grew to be the biggest marathon in Asia, and it was certified by Guinness World Records. The previous record of 39,000 participants was surpassed with 73,206 participants in the marathon. The Guinness World Record aggregator from London, Rishi Nath, presented the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister with the certificate of achievement in the greatest running race series.
