Calcutta High Court Orders No Action Against Attacked ED Officials
Calcutta High Court directed that no coercive steps can be taken against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers in connection with an FIR lodged against them following the Sandeshkhali raid.
The Calcutta High Court directed that no coercive steps can be taken against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers in connection with an FIR lodged against them following the Sandeshkhali raid. The ED stated that three of its officers were injured and their belongings were snatched in an attack on them at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district on January 5.
The attack happened when the federal agents went to Shajahan Sheikh’s house for a raid in connection with the alleged ration system. The ED counsel told the court that four cases were lodged in connection with the incident.
He added that of these cases, one was by the ED on the attack on its officials, and another was against the officers. Justice Jay Sengupta verbally directed that no coercive steps can be taken in connection with the FIR against ED officials, who went to Sandeshkhali to search the premises of Sheikh.
The BJP and Congress leaders slammed the West Bengal ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government after the attack. Congress senior leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said there is no law and order in West Bengal. BJP leaders also targeted the TMC and said West Bengal is witnessing a jungle raj.
