Poor lifestyle choices, including the intake of ultra-processed foods on a regular basis, as well as a sedentary lifestyle, are boosting cancer rates among persons under the age of 40 in India, physicians said on Sunday.
Several factors are contributing to an increase in cancer cases among young people in India. Increased intake of processed foods, smoke, and alcohol, as well as sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and stress, are all major contributors.
Pollution in the environment is another serious issue. Pollution in India’s cities is high, and it has been linked to several types of cancer. Individuals are exposed to carcinogenic compounds through air and water pollution, which dramatically increases their cancer risk.
Ultra-processed meals and sedentary lifestyles are being identified as major factors contributing to increased cancer incidence among young Indians. According to the report, men make up 60% of these young cancer patients, with women accounting for the remaining 40%.
“The high intake of these foods, laden with unhealthy additives, combined with physical inactivity, is creating a health crisis,” said Dr. Rahul Bhargava, Director and Head of the Department of Haematology and BMT at Fortis Memorial Research Institute.
He also said that it’s imperative to adopt healthier dietary habits and an active lifestyle to curb this alarming trend. According to a new study conducted by the Cancer Mukt Bharat Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Delhi, 20% of cancer cases in India are now diagnosed in people under the age of 40.
