Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually launch three new Vande Bharat trains on August 31, enhancing connectivity on the Meerut-Lucknow, Madurai-Bengaluru, and Chennai-Nagercoil routes, as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
These state-of-the-art trains are part of the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. The Meerut City-Lucknow Vande Bharat will reduce travel time by approximately one hour compared to the current fastest service.
The Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil and Madurai-Bengaluru trains will cut journey times by over two hours and around 90 minutes, respectively. The new Vande Bharat trains promise a world-class travel experience with modern amenities and faster speeds, catering to passengers across Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
These trains are designed with a top speed of 160 km/h, anti-collision devices, and fully sealed gangways for ease of movement. Since 2019, Indian Railways has introduced 772 additional train services, including 100 Vande Bharat trains, with a total expenditure of ₹1,343.72 crore.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the ongoing process of introducing diverse train services to meet varying passenger needs, ensuring operational feasibility and resource availability.
