Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Phase II of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail Project on September 16. This extension will greatly enhance urban connectivity by linking key locations such as GNLU (Gujarat National Law University), PDEU (Pandit Deendayal Energy University), GIFT City (Gujarat International Finance Tec-City), and Gandhinagar’s Sector-1.
The new phase, spanning 21 km from Motera to Gandhinagar, includes a separate corridor to GIFT City. The expanded metro network promises a seamless 33.5 km journey from APMC (Vasna) to Gandhinagar Sector-1 at an affordable fare of just Rs 35. This journey will take approximately 65 minutes, providing a cost-effective alternative to taxi or auto-rickshaw rides, which can exceed Rs 375 for the same distance.
The introduction of Phase II is expected to have a transformative impact on local urban mobility and economic growth. It will serve eight stations across Gandhinagar, significantly cutting down commute times and facilitating access to commercial and educational hubs. The metro expansion is anticipated to stimulate growth in real estate, increase productivity, and support sustainable development by reducing traffic congestion and air pollution. The project, funded at Rs 5,384 crore, underscores the commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and connectivity.
