This development is expected to promote digital ticketing, enhance paperless ticketing, and avoid queuing at ticket counters, the statement said. According to the statement, KMRL and its ticketing partner Axis Bank are testing the use of the Kochi-1 card for transit in addition to Kochi Metro and Water Metro, including buses, feeder buses, and feeder autorickshaws.
There are plans to deploy interoperable tickets for both Metro and Water Metro and to reach an average daily ridership of one lakh by 2024, according to the statement. The officials stated that additional commuter-beneficial programs would be implemented in order to boost ridership.
It stated that last year, the KMRL made progress in all areas, including ridership, fare box and non-fare box revenue, and so on. Since it opened for business, the Kochi Metro has carried over 10 crore passengers, with 3.11 crore passing through in 2023 alone.
