A fake message has been doing the rounds in recent days on WhatsApp and social media platforms like Facebook. The fake news is a group of people posing as government officials from the ‘Department of Home Affairs’ looting homes.
In addition to that, the fake message revealed that the impostors have documents with the letterhead of the ‘Department of Home Affairs’, and that they are visiting to confirm that people have valid ID cards in view of the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha polls.
In a big security alert, the center said that you should take note that there is no initiative or rule like that from any government. The central government also stressed that you should send this message in your neighborhood group chat, and that type of person is everywhere and looks presentable.
Interestingly, netizens note that some Facebook users from India posted this message in November 2018. However, a Facebook user from Birmingham, United Kingdom, posted the same message just 22 hours ago.
In fact, a similar type of incident was reported in 2017, but it was from Cape Town in South Africa and not from any place in India.
