Nariman was a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of India and is also the president of the Bar Association of India. He was internationally recognized as a jurist in international arbitration. He got a national award for excellence in public administration. He has argued several cases and become one of India’s most distinguished constitutional lawyers. He was awarded Padma Bushman in January 1991, Padma Vibushan in 2007, and Gruber Price for Justice, and he also remained a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha.
Fali S. Nariman was born in Ranggon, Gujarat, to Parsi parents Banoo Nariman and Bariyamji Nariman. He did his schooling at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, and studied B.A. Economics and history from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and a law degree from Government Law College in Mumbai. He has been awarded the Kinlock Forbes gold medal and prize for Roman law and jurisprudence. His father wanted him to write for the Indian civil service examination, but he couldn’t afford it, so he chose law as his last career option.
At the Bombay High Court, Nirman began his law practice for 22 years. He was appointed as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of India in 1971. He argued many famous cases, such as the Supreme Court AoR Association, the Bhopal gas disaster case, the Golaknath case, In 2002, Nariman received the Gruber Prize for Justice. He donated his honors to Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, his former school. Nariman has held several important positions in the national and international spheres.
