The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Kerala is likely to witness heavy rainfall in the next 5 days. In this regard, the IMD today issued yellow alerts to Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam districts in Kerala. The IMD also issued an orange alert for Idukki district in Kerala. However, isolated heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the central and southern districts of Kerala.
The IMD has also issued a warning against venturing into the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast as the sea will be rough today. The people living in coastal regions of Kerala were also issued a warning against rough seas. However, a rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm can be expected in a period of 24 hours in areas that were given yellow alerts.
Kerala is also likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall for the next four days due to the low pressure that exists over the Arabian Sea. Heavy rainfall between 7 and 11 cm in 24 hours, accompanied by thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph, is likely to occur in isolated areas in Kerala until January 7, 2024.
