On Thursday, a series of violent incidents unfolded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, resulting in the tragic loss of at least nine lives and leaving over a dozen individuals injured. Similar incidents occurred in multiple districts of Balochistan.
In Dera Ismail Khan, five police personnel were martyred, and two others sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated within the jurisdiction of Kulachi police station. The incident transpired during a patrol of the Gara Aslam area of Kulachi dedicated to election security.
Militants ambushed the police vehicle, leading to casualties. Officials reported that, in addition to the IED, the militants opened fire on the vehicle, managing to escape when additional police forces arrived at the scene.
The immediate response involved cordoning off the area and initiating a search operation. The martyred and injured were promptly transported to the district headquarters hospital. The names of the martyred personnel were identified as Sulman Yousaf, Sabir, Israr Ahmad, Ali Muhammad, and Driver Zeeshan. The injured individuals were recognized as Jan Dost and Mushtaq.
This tragic incident underscores the challenges faced in maintaining security, especially during election periods, and highlights the bravery and sacrifice of law enforcement personnel in the line of duty.
