On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah dismissed Article 370 as obsolete and accused those promising its restoration of deceiving the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Shah emphasized that talks with Pakistan are out of the question while terrorism persists in the region. He highlighted that the BJP, since 2014, has been committed to integrating J&K fully with India, contrasting its approach with past governments’ policies of appeasement.
Speaking at the release of the BJP’s election manifesto for the upcoming Assembly elections, Shah stated that significant progress has been made, including increased voter turnout and the restoration of democracy at various levels. He criticized regional parties and their election promises, particularly those concerning reservations and statehood. Shah assured that reservations, as outlined in the Indian Constitution, are secure and denounced the Congress-National Conference alliance’s stance on J&K’s future.
Shah also outlined the BJP’s manifesto promises, including financial support for local youth, development projects such as a fun city in Srinagar, and various infrastructure improvements. He emphasized that J&K has seen three times more investment in the past decade than in the previous 70 years. The elections in J&K will be held in three phases: September 18, 25, and October 1, with results announced on October 8.
