Supreme Court To Hear Pleas Against Places Of Worship Act Today

The Supreme Court will hear petitions today challenging the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, questioning its provisions’ validity. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar will also consider pleas supporting the Act and urging its proper enforcement. The Centre has not responded yet, despite the court issuing notices and granting multiple extensions since March 2021.
