French Economist Seeks India To Increase Taxes On Super-Rich

French economist Thomas Piketty said that India should increase taxes on the super-rich, citing severe inequality. At a Delhi event, he proposed a 2% wealth tax on assets over ₹100 million and a 33% inheritance tax, estimating revenue at 2.73% of GDP. Piketty noted India’s top 1% holds more national income than counterparts in the U.S. and Brazil.
