The Calcutta High Court disposed of petitions challenging West Bengal’s restrictions on cattle slaughter ahead of Eid. Upholding the govt’s rules, the court stated that cow sacrifice is not an essential religious requirement in Islam. It strictly banned animal slaughter in public places and ordered the state to review temporary exemption requests within 24 hours.
