The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension of its free Aadhaar update scheme, which will now run until December 14, 2024. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced an extension of its free Aadhaar update scheme, which will now run until December 14, 2024. This initiative, originally set to conclude on September 14, will allow users to update their Aadhaar details and upload supporting documents on the myAadhaar portal at no cost for an additional three months.
In a recent update on social media platform X, UIDAI confirmed, “UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th December 2024.” This extension is expected to benefit millions of Aadhaar holders across the country, making it easier for individuals to ensure their records are accurate and up-to-date.
The UIDAI emphasizes the importance of maintaining current information in Aadhaar records. This is particularly crucial for those who haven’t updated their Aadhaar cards in over a decade. The free service is available exclusively on the myAadhaar portal, where users can review and amend their details as necessary. To facilitate this, the portal accepts a range of documents including ration cards, voter IDs, domicile certificates, passports, and bank passbooks.
For those who prefer in-person updates, documents can also be submitted at any Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. Online submissions require users to log in with their Aadhaar number and a one-time password sent to their registered mobile number.
The update facility is accessible to non-resident Indians (NRIs) as well. NRIs can use the online platform when in India or visit an Aadhaar Centre to submit their documents. Additionally, Aadhaar registration is available for newborns, provided parents supply a birth certificate and their own Aadhaar numbers. However, newborns’ biometrics must be updated between the ages of 5 and 15.
The UIDAI’s initiative aims to ensure that every Aadhaar number holder can keep their details current and accurate, which helps in preventing identity fraud and ensuring the integrity of the Aadhaar system. The extension of this free service aligns with the UIDAI’s goal of maintaining a robust and reliable identification system for all citizens.
This update is part of broader efforts to improve service accessibility and encourage timely updates to personal records.
